We are all for masculinity and going old school gentlemanly on us, but seriously there is no shame in taking care of yourself. As the pressure to look good mounts on men too, it is more important than ever to jump onto the beauty bandwagon.
Not talking of concealers and waxing just yet (although we are all for those too!), here are a few tricks that women have been putting to practise for years and ones that you need to steal pronto!
1. Use More Natural Products
Drugstore brands are great for most beauty products, but have you read about how typical store potions have been linked to cancer causing ingredients? That doesn't have to mean a complete break from the beauty shopping that you indulge in, but do try to pick products with more natural ingredients. Tea Tree Oil for instance is great to have in shaving cream, face wash or even shampoo if you are prone to allergies or acne. Read up about natural benefits of ingredients and only then put them in your shopping basket.
2. Exfoliate
If you are looking for no fuss, smooth dewy skin, there is you can't afford to ignore exfoliation. It is as simple as washing your face, hands and body with a little more help from the ingredients of a scrub to get clean, well-polished skin. Exfoliation gets rid of dead skin particles and can also help prevent blackheads and ingrown hairs. Also your exfoliator doesn't have to cost much, a quick mix of oatmeal and yoghurt makes a great scrub too!
3. Moisturize
We get it. Singapore is hot, humid and your skin is already clammy, due to the weather most of the time. Moving in and out of air conditioning really hampers your skin’s natural moisture as do those alcohol ridden wipes you may be using to cool down in the heat. Sacrament to the beauty process, you have to get used to moisturizing. If creams and lotions feel too heavy on your skin, try out one of the water masks on the market that the women of this city have been using for years. Not too heavy and yet deep moisturizers, water or gel based compositions will help get your skin back to great shape almost immediately.
4. Care for your Hair
The longstanding model for Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, David Gandy calls it his worst mistake - using cheap hair products. Not only do they make your hair look less than perfect, there is a serious risk to your scalp getting drier and allergy prone. Regardless of your hair type it is important to use a shampoo that is gentle on your hair and full of essential natural ingredients. Vitamin E is great for naturally strengthening and conditioning the hair follicles. Also don't be shy of getting an occasional hot oil treatment when you are out for a haircut next. It will leave your hair with a natural looking shine and add years to its strength!
5. Use Eye Cream to Ward Off Wrinkles
Your eyes maybe the window to your world, but they are hugely vulnerable to dehydration and prone to fine lines and wrinkles. Since our eyes lack sweat glands, they need a little bit of extra help from moisturizers and that's where an eye cream comes in. The secret that women around you don't talk of? Keep the eye cream application for the night as sunlight can destroy the active ingredients found in anti-aging products. Also keep your little jars of hope in the refrigerator. Nothing perks up tired eyes like a cold cream (literally!).
6. Take Care of Your Hands
If you are not quite comfortable with the concept of manicures and spending hours on your hands, just an understanding that your hands need care is a great start! Trimmed nails and well moisturized hands are seen as hygienic and an essential part of modern day grooming. We aren't asking you to follow us to the salon but a quick hand cream rub after an occasional scrub routine can help get you to up your game rather quickly.
7. And Don't Forget Your Feet
You are as much on your feet all day long as most women, or perhaps even more! And while there is nothing more relaxing than a well done foot massage, sometimes there isn't enough time for it! Ask your friends (women please!) for numbers of massage specialists who can come home to your house to help on busy days and also indulge in a routine night time process too. Spread foot cream or any rich moisturizer from heel to toe and put on some cotton socks to let the moisture seep in. Your calluses will be thanking us in the morning!
