Read on to know why you too should invest in a Snow mattress!
Vanilla Luxury: Hi Ethan! Tell us about yourself and how you got into the business of better sleep?
Ethan Sim: Hi, I’m the Founder of Snow Slumber - the cool mattress raising the bar on how we sleep in Singapore! I used to think that sleep is for the weak but after adulting, I realised that to be able to sleep well at night is a luxury. Especially so in today's era where everything is so fast-paced in Singapore.
Vanilla Luxury: Tell us about Snow. What made you think of the product, and how did you decide to venture into this category?
Ethan Sim: One night, I started feeling metal springs protruding out of my mattress. That and the Singapore heat made it extremely uncomfortable to fall asleep. That’s when I started looking for a new mattress.
What I realised was that the "affordable" mattress brands in the market weren’t good enough and when I tried them for measure, they felt too hot or sunk right to the bottom.
Then I moved on to look for quality mattresses, went to multiple showrooms and realised how expensive they all were. In many instances, the mattress quality of these expensive brands wasn’t too far from the affordable ones. The whole experience with pushy and less informed sales staff left much to be desired. That’s also when I realised that there was an unnecessary markup most people were paying for a good mattress, to accommodate costs such as sales commissions and expensive showroom rentals.
This led me to start designing a luxury hybrid mattress brand. One that had to be cool to sleep on and deliver affordability with quality. This could be possible via an online store, without any unnecessary markups and huge value to consumers.

Vanilla Luxury: Do we really need a cooler mattress?
Ethan Sim: Yes definitely! In fact, because we engineered our mattress and bed sheets to feel cooling and dissipate heat, some days I even sleep without the fan on!
It has huge benefits for the quality of your sleep too. When we sleep cooler, we fall asleep faster, more naturally, and stay in deep REM sleep longer.
Vanilla Luxury: The Snow Mattress is delivered in a box - how easy is the concept for a regular customer?
Ethan Sim: It's as easy as 1-2-3! Customers just have to take out the mattress and cut the vacuum packing. You’ll find the mattress slowly inflates to become the comfortable product that we’ve designed - quite a satisfying watch in my opinion!
In fact, to offer further value, we also provide free delivery and an unboxing service for all customers. Nobody likes to pay for delivery and unboxing!
Vanilla Luxury: As a sleep expert what are your top tips for a peaceful night in?
Ethan Sim: The foundation of your sleep starts with your mattress. It is an essential element that will last for many years to come - a good mattress can last upwards of 10 years without sinking, just like Snow Slumber!
Having your room at the right temperature - not too hot or cold is important too. Lastly, even though it’s hard, putting your phones away 30 mins before you sleep helps to stay clear of distractions.
Vanilla Luxury: As a homegrown Singaporean brand, what were the challenges you faced when you launched your company?
Ethan Sim: Product perception was a big one. People tend to trust brands from the US compared to a local homegrown company. This only meant we had to overdeliver in value and in customer service.
Another challenge in growing a Singapore brand might be the lack of a talent pool that is willing to join and scale an e-commerce brand compared to other bigger companies. We have overcome this by extending our hiring pool to not just Singapore but also other countries.
Vanilla Luxury: Tell us, what's next for Snow?
Ethan Sim: Right now, we're looking to release more bed sheet colours and also more bedding products that many of our customers are asking for. We'll keep the rest a secret for now!
