Vanilla Luxury’s Director, Gursheel Dhillon, travelled from Singapore to Maldives for the opening of the Finolhu. She discovered the magic of the exceptional villas located on the gorgeous jewel-like lagoon, and it’s a gem that has left us captivated. If you’re planning to give this little paradise a visit soon, be sure to arrive during the day in time to catch the seaplane that will whisk you away to your destination. Here are some of the highlights from her stay at the Ibiza-style resort.
The Grand Opening of Finolhu
Finolhu Blhu kicked things off with three spectacular days of world-class entertainment, gourmet food, and beverages. Work on your tan by the beach and head on down to chic parties featuring the best DJs and live acts. Each night at Baa Baa Beach Club, guests were invited to colour-themed parties with dress codes such as White Heat, Rouge, and 50 Shades of Blhu.
Guests were treated to a memorable grand opening charged with high intensity as they witnessed an exhilarating display of fireworks, sipped on refreshing beach bar cocktails, and enjoyed exclusive performances. One of the acts that left us in stiches was The Cuban Brothers. Their seamless blend of soulful music, B-Boy action, and anarchic comedy is why this legendary outfit has shows that sell out across the globe.
Rooms and Accomodations
For an affordable option on the luxury spectrum, the Lagoon Villa is a perfect pick for an intimately lavish experience. Step out into the ocean from this Bohemian-inspired overwater lagoon view villa of 145 square metres. It features unique furniture designs like crystal chandeliers, retro cane seats, and Marshall speakers. Stay in and enjoy the 40-inch flat screen TV, private wine and mini bar, or chill by the large outdoor sundeck with loungers and showers outdoors. Finolhu’s meticulous attention to detail can be found on their “Rockstar” embroidered robes – guaranteed to make you feel like one too.
A luxe villa that’s perfect for family and friends who are travelling together would be the Two Bedroom Ocean Lagoon Pool Villa. The fresh ivory wash of the 460 square metre villa comes with its very own 8 metre freshwater pool that’s right outside your room. It has 2 master bedrooms, a large outdoor terrace with sun loungers and a separate indoor dining lounge, complete with a garden hammock and direct access to the beach.
Dining
For that quintessential Maldivian “must-do” experience, savour some tantalizing buckets of prawns, share platters of fresh crab and vegetables, and wash it down with cool, crisp glasses of rosé or crafted cocktails from the Fish & Crab Shack. The shack is an oasis of rustic deliciousness located along Finolhu’s one kilometre sandbar.
If you’re feeling a little homesick for Asian food, Kanusan will fix that right away. With its impressive duck oven, Kanusan’s open kitchen puts its cuisine centre stage, embracing the theatricality of its Asian spirit. Dig in to classic favourites such as Mandarin roasted duck that’s been given a refreshing twist of their own. Enjoy their unique signature dishes including steamed snapper and lobster, black truffle roasted duck and sliced blue abalone in Kanusan sauce.
Day Activities
Apart from its exhilarating nightlife, Finolhu has plenty to offer for those who seek a little daytime adventure. Situated on Palm Beach, Thunderball boasts an incredible 1.5km long lagoon that’s perfect for motorised and non-motorised water sport activities – great for the adrenaline junkies. Try out their jet skis and enjoy its thrill if you feel like turning into James Bond for a day. You can give wake boarding, windsurfing, or catamaran sailing a shot too.
Home to some of the richest waters in the Maldives, HUB (Home of the Under-water Biosphere) is the epicenter for a wide selection of water-based activities around Baa Atoll which was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2011. Dip your toes into water sports, snorkeling trips and excursions that have been curated by their marine biology team.
