Have you tried a modelling face mask yet? First it was ampoules, then lipcerin. Now, among an onslaught of wacky yet genius Korean skincare trends, the modelling face mask is here to stay.
The modelling face mask is not new, but a staple Korean skincare treatment: first applied on the face with a gel-like consistency, then left to harden into a rubbery layer on the skin before being removed. Though this technique of applying a face mask has existed in Korean spas as a professional treatment for years, it has only recently begun to hit commercial markets, including that of Singapore.
Difference between a Sheet Mask and a Modelling Mask
While the regular sheet mask is highly recognisable and beloved by Korean beauty enthusiasts, it has a design flaw: there is a possibility of the mask drying out the skin, since product is able to evaporate from it. The modelling face mask avoids this issue by drying down into a layer from which evaporation is impossible, ensuring that the contents of the mask are absorbed fully into the skin. Additionally, when removed, the modelling face mask has an exfoliating effect.
Typically, modelling face masks are packaged in powder form to which water is added. To maintain the thick texture of the liquid mask, too much water must not be added, though the amount of water needed may vary across brands and varieties. The mask is applied to the face evenly with a spatula, then left on for fifteen to twenty minutes to work its magic. Finally, the mask is peeled off in a single layer.
Modelling masks on the market today are formulated to target nearly every skin concern– from hydration to anti-aging. Here, we have compiled a list of the top modelling mask products on the skincare market today, all of which are available in Singapore on various online and retail platforms.
Torriden Modeling Pack: Award-Winning Korean Brand
Ranked twice consecutively as the best skincare brand in the Hwahae Beauty Awards, Torriden is no stranger to Korean beauty enthusiasts– and one of our favourite brands. With the tagline “Your Skin is Our Planet”, Torriden takes an eco-friendly and simple but effective approach to formulation and design. Their DIVE-IN Low Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid Serum has won multiple awards in multiple categories at the Olive Young Awards in Korea.
Adding to the popular DIVE-IN and Balanceful lines, the Torriden Modeling Pack has just launched in Singapore. The DIVE-IN Modeling Pack is formulated with 5D Complex hyaluronic acids for deep hydration, and kaolin to soothe and enable the skin to retain moisture. The Balanceful Modeling Pack contains a unique 5D Cica Complex, a blend of ingredients such as madecassoside, asiatic acid and asiaticoside to calm sensitive skin. The mask packs are additionally designed to be easy to remove from the face after use.
Once a staple of shopping lists for tourists to Korea, especially to popular drugstore chain Olive Young, Torriden is now available at Guardian stores in Singapore.

Here is a brand that specialises in the modelling mask: LINDSAY has a mask for every skin concern, every occasion, and containing virtually any ingredient. With more than ten years of experience in skincare production, LINDSAY sources all its ingredients, even preservatives, naturally.
The brand’s impressive lineup of masks include sheet-mask star ingredients like pearl, calendula, and tea tree, but also foodie favourites like cotton candy, ice cream, lavender and mint. The masks are additionally packaged in small, efficient little bowls, reminiscent of cup noodles, that make them a perfect choice for a mid-vacation perk-up. Simply peel back the lid and mix the powder with 7-8 spoonfuls of cold water before applying to the face with the included spatula.
The LINDSAY Modeling Mask Cup Packs are available on Cocomo and on Shopee.
Dr. Jart+ Shake & Shot Dermask Shaking Rubber: Award-Winning Design
This slightly terrifying-looking mask, winner of the iF Design Award 2018 for Beauty Packaging, is the brainchild of famous Korean skincare brand Dr. Jart+. The brand is also known for its sheet masks and cica products like the viral tone-adjusting Cicapair™ Tiger Grass Colour Correcting Treatment. Its name derives from “Doctor + Art”, combining innovative skincare techniques with quirky design for a novel skincare experience.
Behind the pop-art exterior, however, the Dr. Jart+ modelling mask is a skincare powerhouse. In four varieties, the “Hydro Shot”, “Elastic Shot”, “Soothing Shot”, and “Luminous Shot”, the masks boast skincare benefits such as improving skin elasticity and strengthening the skin’s moisture barrier. The “Soothing Shot” in particular contains menadione/vitamin K3, a rare skincare ingredient which promotes wound healing.
Dr, Jart+ products are available at both Watsons Singapore and Sephora Singapore, but the Shake & Shot Dermask can only be found on Shopee.
Dr. Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Hydrating Modeling Mask: Medical-Grade Skincare
Dr. Dennis Gross, a brand with a background in clinical dermatology, offers sleek and scientifically tested treatments, such as its Alpha Beta+ Daily Peel line for exfoliation and smoothing. The brand has now formulated a modelling mask, in the Korean style, that continues to promise reliable and proven skincare benefits.
The Hyaluronic Marine Hydrating Modeling Mask is infused with medical-grade marine algae and hyaluronic acid as its key ingredients. As the texture of the mask changes from liquid to rubbery, the marine algae transfers moisture to the skin. Hyaluronic acid, a renowned skincare favourite, acts as a humectant to restore a plump and hydrated skin texture.
The mask is offered as part of the brand’s Hyaluronic Marine line, including a cleanser, serum and moisturiser, all of which contain the same active ingredients and are formulated to complement each other. All of these products can be found at Sephora Singapore.
Mediheal Derma Modeling Pack: Top Brand for Face Masks
Korean skincare brand Mediheal has long been known on Tiktok for its adorably packaged and practical square toner pads, such as the Madecassoside Blemish Pad for blemished skin and the Vitamide Brightening Pad for dull skin. Now, the brand has brought out the Derma Modeling Pack, packaged just as conveniently and cutely for an at-home spa day.
The Mediheal Derma Modeling Pack comes in five varieties, with functions that line up perfectly with each of the square toner pad types, so they make for perfect companion products to target particular skin issues. Named for their respective standout ingredient, they are “Collagen Firming”, “Madecassoside Blemish”, “Teatree Calming”, “Vitamin Brightening” and “Hyaluronate Moisture”.
Mediheal’s full range of products, including both the square toner pads and Derma Modeling Pack, is available at Guardian Singapore.

A no-frills skincare brand boasting cosmetic medical ingredients for daily use, MEDI-PEEL is a Korea-based brand with storefronts in both Korea and Australia. MEDI-PEEL’s range of modelling masks come in both cup and pack form, so you can choose the format of application that suits you best. Among the favourites like marine collagen for hydration and vitamin for brightening, the brand also carries modelling masks with uncommon skincare ingredients, like chlorella for skin purifying and oil control– the only product on this list that especially fights acne. The pack form of the masks allows for a repeated routine of application, such as a weekly mask, that delivers more sustained results.
MEDI-PEEL Modeling Masks are available on StyleKorean, Shopee, and through the MEDI-PEEL Australia online store, though Singapore delivery prices can only be found through contacting customer service.
VT Reedle Shot EX Modeling Pack: A Face Mask with Needles?
VT Cosmetics, the brand behind the 2023 Glowpick Award-winning Reedle Shot 100 ampoule, has also released a line of modelling masks. “VT” stands for “In Vogue and Timeless”, and the brand accordingly strives to formulate products with ingredients that are trendy, innovative, yet stand the test of repeated use. It has trademarked the core ingredient of its Cica Line, Cicahyaluron™, which is a compound of Korean star skincare ingredient centella asiatica and triple hyaluronic acid for maximum soothing benefits.
The brand has, par for the course for Korean skincare, released several variations on the modelling mask targeted towards different skincare concerns. However– and this is not as painful as it sounds– all of them contain what VT Cosmetics terms “cica reedles”. These little wonders, also present in the Reedle Shot 100 serum, are microscopic beauty needles packed with centella asiatica to deliver calming goodness directly into the skin. All of the masks are fragarance-free and hence suited to sensitive skin.
The Reedle Shot EX Modeling Packs are available on Shopee, Yesstyle and StyleKorean.
Shangpree Premium Modeling Mask: From a Top Korean Spa
Shangpree, located in Gangnam-gu, is one of the most famous spas in Korea. The Shangpree Premium Modeling Mask, the spa’s take on the modelling mask, is packaged in Shangpree’s signature luxuriously minimalist style. There are two variations of the mask available: the Clear Feel Modeling Mask, targeted towards textured and bumpy skin, and the Rich Moist Modeling Mask, targeted towards dehydrated skin. The Rich Moist Modeling Mask, in particular, contains an indulgent blend of gold, hydrolysed collagen and propolis extract to calm inflamed skin– perfect for hot climates like Singapore’s.
The mask can be found, of course, in Shangpree’s various skincare boutiques in Seoul. Fortunately for those of us without plane tickets, both versions of the mask can also be found on Shangpree’s online store.
