Brides have it easy. They can get away with mood swings, panic attacks or tons of tears, all in the name of pre-wedding nerves. The groom on the other hand, seems fairly circumstantial to the whole ceremony. Except, he’s not - there’s a lot that goes on in a man’s head before he gets married! Here’s our worry list for the 21st century groom-to- be, read on and make sure you conquer them all.
1. Wedding Planning
Let’s face it, you tag along for the cake tasting, guest list brainstorming and décor demonstrations, merely because you have to. But there’s nothing worse than fighting over small details at the rehearsal if you don’t pay attention now. Get your best listening skills along and show enthusiasm where it’s needed – and by that we don’t mean only eating all that cake. See yourself inundated with choices (pale yellow and pastel yellow are mostly the same)? Just say yes, or let the wife- to- be lead.
2. Agreeing on a Venue
This is a different battle altogether. Costs aside, there’s always a need for a practical voice over the ooh’s and aah’s of gorgeous settings. Whilst an outdoor by the beach location may be stunning, it may not do so well when the rain Gods decide to visit too. A sweaty, hot destination makes for grouchy guests (bride and groom aside), so stick to your stand and get air conditioning in the mix. Bride upset over your choice? You can always make up with the best first dance ever!
3. Pre-Wedding Fitness
While everyone talks about pre-wedding fitness for women, you often wonder how men cope? There is a fitness routine to be followed gentlemen, and it’s never too late to get started on one. Take personal trainer lessons and stick to a low calorie meal to get in shape before the grand day. Not only will that mean a better fitted suit, but it will also get you brownie points for a fabulous beach honeymoon body!
4. Do I need a facial (and a pedicure)?
And it’s the same with the beauty industry. Brides are cajoled into getting all sorts of beauty treatments done whilst we barely hear about groom worthy beauty. Take care of that skin and ensure you pack in a few facials as the big day comes closer. Pedicures? That’s just good hygiene – get one regardless!
5. The Honeymoon
The perfect wedding needs a perfect honeymoon. While some couples often discuss the location and details of their wedding getaway, often the onus lies on the man to finalise plans. Make sure you check with your girl on what she fancies - beach, mountains or city. Don’t want to splurge too much? Work your way through your honeymoon with part budget (yet cultural) and part luxury accommodation. Our recommendation – save the most luxurious experiences for the last few days.
6. What to wear?
Don’t let the bride’s dress take away all the focus. A groom is as dapper as his suit! When thinking of how to match tie to pocket square, hues of your bride’s dress or even the wedding theme – it’s best to leave it to the experts.
