Celebrate International Hummus Day in Singapore at Beirut Grill
International Hummus Day falls on 13th May every year and has been celebrated around the world for the past 4 years.
"Hummus" comes from the Arabic word meaning "chickpeas" and originated in the Middle East. It is a dip made from cooked and then mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic.
This superfood is worshipped by its fans almost like a religion. There is even an instagram account of hot Israeli men eating Hummus.
Countries in the middle-east have been competing with each other over who can prepare the most amount of Hummus in a single go and the Guinness World Record for the largest dish of Hummus was last awarded to Lebanon in May 2010. The winning dish was cooked by 300 cooks in the village of al-Fanar, near Beirut, and weighed approximately 10,450kg, double the previous record set by Israel.
Beirut Grill in Singapore has launched a 6-day festival in conjunction with International Hummus Day. The line up includes live belly-dancers, drums, saxophone performances and a Hummus making competition on 13th May 2017 at 4pm.
