We Review the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™, the Most Powerful Robot Vacuum in Singapore
The Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ is probably on your wishlist this year. As the most powerful robot vacuum in Singapore and a design that amps up any cleaning project, it is certainly the robot vacuum we are all yearning for. But, like all of Dyson’s lust-worthy designs and effortless tech, the price tag of $1,649 makes for a pause-worthy consideration.
Is the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ the vacuum you absolutely must include in your collection of household appliances? Continue reading as we walk you through all the incredible features of this modern robot, as well as its quirks and how to appreciate what might be your most intelligent companion yet!
Dyson 360 Vis Nav™: Open, Plug and GO!
Call us lazy, but we love any gadget that isn't accompanied by a long manual. The whole point of great technology is to make it accessible and easy to use - by everyone. And who better to manage plug-and-go than Dyson themselves? Their robot vacuum too comes in a compact design, that’s raring to start out of the box.
A simple dock and cable set-up, allows you to create a home for your vacuum. By the way, the robot functions just fine without the dock being fastened to your wall, but for convenience and aesthetics, we advise settling on a permanent place.
This one is D for different in shape! The fact that round robots can't access corners and edges gives the design element a head start. You will notice a screen on top, again a first for most robot vacuum designs. This screen also allows you to control the vacuum and is a great tool to check battery levels, mode of cleaning and any system updates. That said, you are better off getting the super-intelligent MyDyson™ app which takes care of everything - but more on that later.
Additionally, there is a camera directly on top that has 360-degree vision, allowing your new machine to navigate the house while cleaning and creating dust maps. No rotating brushes, what gives? Dyson claims other robot vacuums disperse dirt more than they lift it. This is why the 360 Vis NavTM has a long bar brush that can cover a lot more ground than other vacuums we have seen.
There are a few other accompanying buttons on the body, that you must know about. First, there’s the grey square, that gently gives way to your (washable)lifetime HEPA filter. Also, housed next to it is the dust canister in classic Dyson-like radial cyclones. The one-click release opens up a handle that allows you to remove this canister, and release all that dust straight to your bin. No messy hands!
So, What Can the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ Do?
The robot has a 360-degree vision system that uses a fisheye lens, giving it a panoramic picture of your house so it can plan its course. This SLAM vision system analyses the data from the camera and keeps track of where it has been and where it should next clean.
Then comes all that power. A Dyson Hyperdymium™ motor spins up to 110,000rpm to deliver six times the suction of any other robot vacuum. It also features Dyson’s new triple-action brush bar – Dyson’s first brush bar to combine three ways to deep clean with powerful suction.
Do you have multiple floor types in your home? No problem! The Dyson 360 Vis NavTM has 'Fluffy' nylon for picking up heavy debris on hard surfaces, anti-static carbon fibre filaments for fine dust on hard floors, and stiff nylon bristles to dig into carpets without damaging them.
Slight steps and rugs aren’t an obstacle for this power horse. Its dual-link suspension system, allows the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ to climb up to 21mm while the low profile gives it access to furniture up to 99mm in height. It will reach many of the troublesome spots you detest cleaning.
As for managing dust around corners, the 360 Vis Nav™ comes with a red side edge actuator(a tongue of sorts) which slicks through any dust when the robot is near an edge. The D-shape allows for the vacuum to go close to the wall, and manage any dust left behind in a previous cleanse.
MyDyson™ App
Smart home connectivity comes alive with the MyDyson™ app. Scan the QR code, download the app, register your machine and let it impress as only a Dyson can. The Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ works in tandem with the MyDyson™ app to intelligently navigate and clean. It allows for customising your cleaning such as setting times, days and power modes to suit your home. Additionally, your robot continuously maps dust hotspots to automatically boost suction power as necessary. You may even return and review the maps to see which parts of the house were most dusty.
Don’t want it on your Persian rug? Simply use the app to specify regions to completely avoid, disable the brush bar motor, or create exclusions. This allows ample flexibility to include cut-off zones such as wet areas like a bathroom or kitchen. The app will also alert you when a clean begins or if your robot requires your assistance.
Did we mention that the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ recharges itself when necessary? Your robot will return to its charging station without the inconvenience of you needing to plug it in; whether this is in between cleaning cycles or at the conclusion of a brief round. How's that for handy?
What You Need to Know About the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™
While the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ does what it says on paper, and alarmingly well, there are a few nuances to keep in mind.
- Privacy: There is no live camera, and Dyson does not take photos or videos of your home and upload these to a cloud. This is fantastic for people who value their privacy, but if you wanted to catch your dog while you were at work, Dyson won't do the trick.
- Getting ready for a clean: Do you organise your room before the cleaners arrive? Prepping for the Dyson robot vacuum is somewhat similar as you will need to do the work before you start a cycle. Clear out your areas of hanging curtains, lift any floor-touching duvets and remove hanging wires. Got tiny tots and toys? They’ll have to move to a different level.
- Charge: It needs charging and quite often! A full cycle of cleaning especially in Boost mode will need charge every 20-30 minutes. Since the robot automatically charges itself and continues its cycle when the battery levels are sufficient, this is not very bothersome. Our remedy? Stick to Auto Mode where you can get a mix of power, longer battery life, and sound based on the environment it's cleaning.
- Reworks map: Your vacuum robot will frequently complete a room before returning to it later. This appears to be a method of finishing the cleaning by returning to take care of corners and edges. Although we are still learning the precise mapping science behind it, it can somewhat derail your plans.
- No mopping: While other robot vacuums have moved onto mopping floors, the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ does not offer a wet mop option yet. In fact, you are to keep it away from water and any wet areas. That said, the level of dust cleaning is quite precise so a manual mop a few times a week, is more than sufficient.
- Allergy-friendly: The lifetime HEPA filter helps, and immensely. We noticed a remarkable difference in floor dust(clean socks to prove it) and carpet dust in comparison to other handheld vacuum cleaners. That said, you will need more than just the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ for your cleaning brigade. There are corners that it can miss, and other areas of the house that it can’t reach.
- Pets and hair: If you hate the sight of hair on your floor, this robot is a keeper. From effortlessly sweeping human hair to ensuring your floor is largely pet-hair-free, this one feature alone is worth the expense. We also can't get over the carpet cleanse vs. other vacuum cleaners - if you have a rug or two, you want it!
Is the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ Vacuum Robot a good purchase for your home in Singapore? if you value having a spotless home, effortless cleaning, and a device that anyone in your family can use, the answer is a 'yes'. A device that will finally listen and lick those corners clean, we highly recommend adding the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ to your gift list.
The Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ is priced at SGD 1,649 at Dyson.com and your local Dyson Demo store. Buy Direct from the people who made it at Dyson.com.sg.
