Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, since it’s often the only one where we’ll get to eat viennoiseries, eggs, sausages and bacon in a single sitting. With Eggslut shutting down in Singapore, we're certain you are on the lookout for the best breakfast places in the city.
These shiny new breakfast spots have all the fixings– and a little more, in the form of unique creations like AIR CCCC's Kenari Nut Sticky Bun, Average Service’s “Handkerchief” pasta, or massive stacked sandwiches from Sarnies.
As you can tell, we’re very fond of French pastries– and a flood of French bakeries and bistros have opened in the city as of late, like the 135-year-old PAUL Le Café in the Central Business District, and the Parisian breakfast bistro Bonjour by Ma Cuisine. The old-fashioned fry-up looks not too far behind: Origin + Bloom’s English muffin breakfast sandwich and fifties fry-ups from Tanglin Cookhouse will grease the wheels for your big day ahead. On the simpler side, there’s minimalist, Scandi-style breakfasts, like sourdough platters from Lean & Rich Bakery and cinnamon sticky buns from Baker’s Bench. Now, don’t you wish we had breakfast three times a day?
Bonjour by Ma Cuisine – A Uniquely Parisian Bistro Breakfast
From the people behind Singapore’s first Michelin-starred gastro wine bar, Ma Cuisine, comes Bonjour by Ma Cuisine, a unique Parisian bistro-style breakfast experience. Co-founders Anthony Charmetant and Mathieu Escoffier have created a convivial and warm breakfast space, laid with the classic paper placemats and vintage Blanche Patine plates of the French bistro, for guests to enjoy their mornings and afternoons at.
Bonjour by Ma Cuisine opens from 8am to 2:30pm on weekdays, where you can enjoy French breakfast and lunch dishes with wines by the glass, carafe or bottle. Try the Croque Monsieur Truffe, inspired by a signature dish by Mathieu’s mother, who served it in her establishment in Beaune, or the Quenelle de Brochet Sauce Nantua, a Lyonnaise specialty of delicate fish topped with rich crustacean sauce. Of course, you can get French toast: the Pain Perdu Kaya ou Crème Anglaise, served with kaya and sweet custard.
Accompany breakfast with a French apéritif like kir royal or mimosa, or a wine from Ma Cuisine’s extensive selection: white, rosé, red, crémant and champagne, a mix of well-known and obscure. You’ll be able to sample Bandol, Lulu & Lucien Domaine Temper 2020, a rare wine from a producer known for age-worthy, Mourvèdre-based wines, and Anjou Noir, Domaine Belargus 2021, a mineral-driven, modern Chenin Blanc, among others.

AIR CCCC– Breakfast In Nature at Dempsey Hill
This place looks to become one of Singapore’s hottest new breakfast spots– AIR CCCC, an indoor-and-outdoor restaurant concept in Dempsey Hill, has taken to serving breakfast. The space is warm, inviting, has a pet-friendly lawn, and now elevates your weekend breakfasts with leisurely picnic-style set-ups overlooking surrounding nature. With sweet and savoury pastries, indulgent breakfast plates, morning cocktails, locally roasted coffee and handcrafted kombucha on the menu, you’ll easily be spoiled for choice.
AIR CCCC offers two distinct experiences as part of their new SUNRISE programme for breakfast: indoors at the Restaurant, and outdoors on the Lawn. At the Restaurant, choose from light bites like the Overnight Oats with candied cashews, toasted Kenari nuts, tamari and coconut milk, and the Fresh Fruit Plate, a chef’s selection of seasonal fruit. There’s a whole egg section of the menu, offering rich and satisfying egg dishes: the Indonesian Avocado Toast features fluffy scrambled eggs layered with avocado, sourdough, and finished with chili crisp, while the Fermented Potato Croquette features a crispy croquette, calamansi crème fraîche, chili jam and a sunny-side-up egg. For the full experience, opt for the Breakfast Bundle: one breakfast dish, one bake, and a choice of coffee, tea or juice. SUNRISE at the Restaurant is available from Fridays to Sundays, 8am to 11am.
Breakfast outdoors can be enjoyed at SUNRISE at the Lawn, featuring an array of handcrafted baked goods: the current baked menu contains four signature creations. The Chocolate Babka, swirled with dark chocolate, Kenari Nut Sticky Bun glazed with caramelised Kenari nuts, Calamansi Lime Bar with shortbread crust and Chocolate Tahini Brownie add to a delightful outdoor dining experience, paired with Maxi Coffee’s locally brewed coffee and Wild Bucha’s kombucha for a bright start to the day. SUNRISE at the Lawn happens every Friday to Sunday, 8am to 12pm.

PAUL Le Café – New French Breakfast Café In The Central Business District
PAUL Le Café’s newest outpost is a take on the beloved neighbourhood boulangerie in Singapore’s Central Business District– perfect for a quick breakfast or an afternoon break à la française. The new café is sleek and contemporary, yet has a warmth that reflects PAUL’s 135-year heritage as a French bakery.
PAUL Le Café takes pride in its ingredients: French butter in its viennoiseries, pastries and cakes, and coffee made with a signature blend of 100% Arabica beans, roasted in France and Rainforest Alliance certified. Choose from the signature golden-brown Croissant, the Grillé Pomme, caramelised puff pastry filled with apple compote, or the Anglaise Abricot, topped with glazed apricot slices and custard, among other baked goods. Don’t miss the sweets: tartlets, macarons and éclairs, freshly baked daily, are also available.
Sandwiches and salads are also on the menu for heartier meals. The café also offers a wide selection of drinks and coffees, ranging from the practical to the whimsical: the PAUL Macaron Frappé, Oncteaux hot chocolate, and artisanal teas.

Average Service – A Retro-Hip Breakfast, Brunch and Dinner Café
New, retro-inspired café Average Service is not your average breakfast place. This day-to-night lifestyle spot in Jalan Besar, which serves about everything from breakfast plates to pastas to dessert to tea-based cocktails, has a relaxed atmosphere and easy charm– good to take you and your friends through brunch, dinner and post-dinner drinks.
The bold blue interior plays host to some interesting, though endlessly hip, food concoctions: the Mentai Handkerchief Pasta features springy sheet-shaped pasta layers, reminiscent of lasagna, topped with mentaiko sauce, and the Thick Slab Bacon, a chunk of maple-glazed bacon atop an omelette and sourdough, promises a good start to anybody’s morning. On the sweeter side, there’s the Average Maple Toast, a thick slice of honey toast, torched and served with whipped cream and maple syrup.
Average Service is clearly designed as a gathering space, and the menu reflects that: tea-based cocktails and bread platters for sharing, with a trio of house-made butters, are good conversation starters. Do try the specialty tea blends– which include a lavender matcha latte named the Baby Blu.

Origin + Bloom – All-Day Breakfast Sandwiches at Marina Bay Sands
Origin + Bloom is one of our favourite breakfast places for each time we find ourselves at Marina Bay Sands– with a delightful selection of all-day breakfast sandwiches, pastries, gourmet sandwiches and cakes, you’re in for a treat. All bakes are seasonal, so you’re never quite sure what you’re going to get.
This café is a largely standing-room-only area in the hotel lobbies at Marina Bay Sands, good to get some people-watching in while you wait for your sandwich and coffee. The sandwiches, which we highly recommend, range from classic breakfast items on the all-day breakfast menu like the Beef Pastrami, Ham & Cheese Croissant, the “Great Day Ahead” sandwich with chicken, tomato and egg in an English muffin, to all-day global sandwich favourites like the Philly Cheesesteak and Parisian With Cheese.
Don’t leave without a sweet treat, like one of the café’s artisanal cakes and viennoiseries– fruit-topped danishes, pain au chocolat, or the Paris-Brest. Though Origin + Bloom gets packed sometimes, especially towards the afternoon, it only adds to its busy charm– and there’s few things more charming than standing by a marble bar, coffee in one hand, croissant in the other.

Lean & Rich Bakery – Artisanal Sourdough And Other Breakfast Favourites
Lean & Rich Bakery styles itself after minimalist, Northern European bakeries, but its recipes are far from simple: artisanal sourdough, continental flavours like pistachio and gorgonzola, and uncomplicated yet lush breakfast platters of fluffy bread, hard cheese and fruit jam. The bakery is owned by a Korean baker, Hong Ui Chang, from Seoul’s Tartine Bakery, who comes into the shop every morning to bake. The name alludes to the shop’s offerings of “lean” sourdough alongside “rich” pastry, all made with French Elle & Vire butter.
The bakery’s artisanal sourdough comes in original, olive, rye, quinoa and other flavours, and can be ordered by the slice with a side of whipped butter and honey. The “Rich” menu, featuring buttery pastries, is particularly tempting– the pistachio pastry, a swirl of crumbly pastry topped with a generous dollop of pistachio cream, is a particularly indulgent choice paired with a cup of coffee. If you’re a fan of “picky bits” platter breakfasts like we are, you’ll love the Morning Platter: a simple selection of bread, cheese, whipped butter, fig jam and a soft-boiled egg.
There are currently four sandwiches on the menu, as part of their brunch series: the Caponata & Burrata, Apple & Brie, Gorgonzola & Pecan and Foccacia Italiana, each displaying the textural complexity and elegance of the best Italian meals.

Sarnies – A Cheery, Melbourne-Style Breakfast Spot
Sarnies in Telok Ayer, a sunny Aussie breakfast and lunch spot, lets you customise your own big breakfast plates, all washed down with a cup of house-blend, Melbourne-style coffee. Besides a wide selection of breakfast and brunch bowls, like avocado on toast, smoked salmon bagels and Turkish eggs, this joint lets you “Pimp My Breakfast”: any combination of English muffins, country sourdough, roasted mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, pork and thyme sausages, Brazilian Angus Striploin steak, eggs and more, served with spreads like strawberry jam and chive cream cheese.
Of course, what’s the use of discussing a place like Sarnies without talking about the sarnies? This restaurant is home to some epic stacked sandwiches, if you’d like a particularly big breakfast: we’re eyeing the Bacon & Egg, made with house bacon, bacon jam, two fried eggs and tomato relish, all in country sourdough, a wrap, or ciabatta. Another that’s caught our attention is the Chicken Caesar, with roasted chicken, crispy bacon, egg salad and Caesar dressing. The sandwiches are only available on weekdays, so pop by before you head to the office– you’ll have enough fuel in you to run a marathon.

Tanglin Cookhouse – For An Authentic, Retro British-Singaporean Breakfast
It’s the fifties again at Tanglin Cookhouse, where British classic breakfasts are reinvented with local and regional flair– this time machine of a restaurant serves up the best of late-colonial English fare, alongside more trendy brunch options like the Eggs Benedict. Pair a full English fry-up – with Cumberland sausage! – with tropically inspired cakes and pastries like the ondeh-ondeh, chocolate coconut caramel cake, and Kaya Croissant. Brunch plates are customisable, so you may top your bubble and squeak– made rösti-style with bacon and hollandaise– with a healthy pile of baked beans.
If you choose to stay on through lunch, you’ll find a menu of delightfully old-fashioned dishes made new: mini Yorkshire puddings with roasted Angus beef and onion jam, the Old-Fashioned Chicken Pie, and Mulligatawny soup, a British-Indian classic of lentils, coconut milk and spices served with charcoal youtiao bread. There’s also a selection of desserts of both Western and Asian origins: sticky date pudding, made not-so-stuffy with coconut ice cream and papadum, and warm, comforting orh nee. There’s a British Bread & Butter Pudding, served in a massive skillet topped with vanilla ice cream and cocoa nibs, that’s the stuff of English dessert dreams.

Baker’s Bench – Breakfast Bakes and Pastries Made With Love
Baker’s Bench Bakery is a humble neighbourhood bakery in Bukit Pasoh serving up yeast-free, 100% sourdough bakes. With its heritage storefront and vintage furnishings, there’s something about stepping into this unpretentious bakery that feels like coming home.
Baked goods are made in small batches here, and line the countertop in a tempting display– there are some which don’t appear frequently in bakeries in Singapore, like the Savoury Swirl, a danish made with pesto and parmesan. The Sticky Buns are another rare find: 100% sourdough swirls glazed with cinnamon and pecans, perfect for an unorthodox but welcome Swedish fika with coffee. As all good small-batch bakeries are, the menu is seasonal– expect to find new items frequently among the pastries and bakes.
This bakery also does sandwiches on a rotating menu: Club Sourdough Foccacias with bacon and eggs, Smoked Ham and Cheese Omelette Sourdough Foccacias, and Tuscan Chicken Meatball flatbreads. We hear there was a Bangers and Mash flatbread at some point in the bakery’s history– we’ll be there the minute it returns to the display.

Nassim Hill Bakery Bistro Bar– Simple, Comforting Breakfast and Brunch Classics
The Nassim Hill Bakery Bistro Bar has long been a favourite high-street brunch spot of ours: with pastas, artisanal pizzas, pancake and waffle stacks, bread baskets, sandwiches and no less than seven egg dishes, anything you’d ever want for breakfast is probably served here. This breezy bistro sits right on the corner of Orchard Road, all the better to fuel up before hours upon hours of shopping.
Among our picks on the menu are the Skillet Eggs– made shakshouka-style with red pepper harissa sauce, chili cheese Kransky sausage, and toasted baguette, and the “B.B.B.”, scrambled eggs with ham, tomato, spinach, shredded gruyere, and a croissant. Curiously and amazingly, Nassim Hill’s brunch menu contains foods from all over the world: you can get poutine, buttermilk fried chicken and pancakes, a Jamón Serrano pizza, dry laksa pasta and a Salmon Niçoise salad in the same spread.
Happy hour at the bistro starts from 9am– yes, you read that right– and you can choose from classic drinks like the Mimosa or one of Nassim Hill’s signature cocktails, like the Peach Tree Lemonade or Dirty Sriracha Bloody Mary.
