Thinning Hair? It’s Time to Consider a Non-Invasive Scalp Micropigmentation(SMP) Treatment in Singapore
Are you worried about hair loss and a rapidly-thinning hairline? Turns out that hair loss is one of the most common beauty concerns for men and women worldwide. By the age of 35, around 40 per cent of males suffer from visible hair loss and this number jumps to 65 per cent by the time they are 60.
In women, nearly one-third of us experience hair loss at some point in our lives, and amongst post-menopausal women, this can be as high as two-thirds of the female population. So, whether it's a balding spot, thinning hair or a receding hairline that’s keeping you worried, know that it’s normal and most around you are possibly feeling the pain.
Now when it comes to treatments for hair loss, there’s a world of options out there - topical haircare, hair transplants, laser treatments and the works. But if you are looking for a fast, cheaper than in-clinic treatment, and effective hair loss solution, Scalp Micropigmentation may be worth your time.
Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP as it is often called, won’t treat your hair loss but instead disguises or covers it with pigments, to make the baldness less obvious.
Want to know more? Here’s everything you need to know about Scalp Micropigmentation in Singapore, by leading SMP artists Monostudio.
What is Scalp Micropigmentation?
SMP uses a combination of dots and shading techniques to create density and volume. The result is instant and a good solution for Alopecia, hair loss and thinning issues in both men and women. Is it the same as eyebrow embroidery? Yes and no.
Eyebrow embroidery helps to enhance the look of your brows and fill in empty spaces. Scalp Micropigmentation does the same - it creates the illusion of fullness and is a boon for those with patchy hairlines.
Where they differ is in technique. While microblading uses small strokes and a blade that cuts into the upper layers of the skin, SMP goes into the topmost layer of your scalp. It is also a highly skilled technique - go in too deep and your scalp will be filled with blotchy pigment, stay up too high, and the colour will fade too quickly due to cell turnover.
Also, SMP does not create hairlike lines as you see in microbladed eyebrows. Instead, it uses layered dots to create a hue of shade and a natural-looking shadow on your scalp.
But, just like its eyebrow counterpart SMP is a great cosmetic fix for anyone who is looking to give the impression of fuller hair.
Scalp Micropigmentation at Monostudio
Scalp Micropigmentation is a relatively new treatment in Singapore and Monostudio is one of the pioneers who introduced the treatment to the red dot. With at least 4 SMP clients per artist, every day, they have the knowledge and skill set to manage different hair needs and expectations.
Most importantly, Monostudio’s staff have been trained in Seoul and work closely with each customer to create a personalised treatment plan. Based on each client’s follicles, Monostudio customises the shading and ink placement and helps to create the most natural-looking, safe results possible.
The Process of Scalp Micropigmentation
SMP does a good job of cosmetically enhancing thinning hair and is often a preferred alternative for those seeking quick, non-surgical hair restoration procedures.
SMP involves adding very fine tattoo-like dots and shading onto your scalp, in order to cover up the contrast of your skin and the hair. This creates natural shading giving the appearance of a thicker, fuller hairline.
Worried about pain levels? Unlike eyebrow microblading, SMP uses specialised thinner needles which cause lower levels of pain. A numbing cream is also applied to the scalp prior to the procedure, so the overall treatment pain level remains tolerable.
There’s no downtime involved which means you can head to your next meeting right after your SMP treatment!
Results and Aftercare for SMP
Expect to invest 1-1.5 hours at your SMP appointment. This is based on the area that needs to be covered and can vary per individual. And yes, results are instantaneous and visible after just one session. However, Monostudio recommends that you come back for a minimum of three sessions (with rest between sessions) to allow for optimal density and results.
Done well, Scalp Micropigmentation can last for as long as 3 to 5 years, but the pigment begins to fade over time due to ageing or exposure to the sun. Similar to eyebrow embroidery, oily skin and sweating can also accelerate this loss of pigment.
However, that shouldn’t stop you from this non-invasive hair loss option, it only means you need to go for your touch-ups sooner!
The aftercare is similar to when you have your eyebrows embroidered. Typically avoid washing your hair or scalp until the pigment settles. Your aesthetician at Monostudio will also discourage any extreme exercise or steam and sauna sessions during this time.
Scabbing for SMP is minimal in comparison to eyebrow microblading – this is because the dot method creates very little damage to your scalp.
