Royal Caribbean: Spectrum of the Seas from Singapore to Penang
Award-winning Royal Caribbean Cruises needs no introduction. They have been voted as the top cruise line for families, best cruise line for first-timers and even best cruise for couples. We stayed at the State Room with Balcony which gave us the privacy to watch the sunrise, sunset and hear the waves as we sailed. Several tips from us would be to add-on the VIP Drink package, WIFI and be sure to bring along a cardigan and lip balm for your utmost comfort.
Round-The-Clock Entertainment
We thought we knew entertainment until we boarded the cruise and saw the itinerary. From shopping with special sales happening at various hours, to the casino that is always ringing, and live performances that everyone wants to see. Popular shows include SHOWGIRL™,THE SILK ROAD™, and THE EFFECTORS™.
Alternatively, if you wish to take it easy, there are outdoor film nights, karaoke, live band performance and even a pianist playing at Schooner Bar.
Endless Activities to Experience For All Ages
The Royal Caribbean Spectrum of the Seas is every child’s dream. With activities such as Adventure Science Lab, Aquanauts, Arcade, Dodgem Cars, Rock, Climbing Wall and did we mention free flow of soft serve ice cream, your little one will be highly entertained.
But if all you want to do is just chill, check out Solarium that is strictly for adults where you’ll get some peace with fantastic views of the ocean. And yes, there is a bar and wait staff at your service.
North Star®
Similar to the Singapore Flyer, North Star® gives you a 360-degree view of the seas. It is the winner of the Guinness World Record for tallest viewing deck on a cruise ship – and takes in views of the ocean, ship and some of the world’s most incredible shores from over 100 metres above sea level. Opt for North Star Extended if you are feeling courageous.
RIPCORD® BY IFLY®
If you never had the time to experience iFLY on land, here’s your chance. It was indeed a surreal experience to have the wind in your face, and to follow instructions when you’re fuelled with adrenaline. Definitely a must-try and do bring your own shoes.
FLOWRIDER®
Bring your bathing suits if you want to surf on the 12-metre-long FlowRider® surf simulator. Grab your board and get ready, 100,000 litres of rushing amazingness are headed your way. Carve like a pro – or just try to stay upright – while friends cheer you on from the stadium seating.
We Recommend Booking These Restaurants in Advance (Excluded)
TEPPANYAKI℠
Fun, entertaining, yet delicious, our favourite dining experience was at Teppanyaki℠. The Chefs were highly entertaining and engaging with everyone from all ages on the table and were absolutely generous with their portions. We were not expecting our dishes to taste as good as it did as it did but the fried rice, steaks, lobsters and even desserts were delicious. Do add on the sake pairing. Definitely a must-book in advance as they are highly recommended. If you’re lucky, you’ll get seats facing the sea.
Chop’s Grille
Known to be the best fine-dining restaurant on the ship, this classic American steakhouse has revamped their menu. Our server recommended the Mushroom Soup as he saw how the culinary team prepares it from scratch and it was worth every sip. A popular starter is their charred beef carpaccio, thinly sliced and served rare with fresh rocket, parmesan cheese and truffle mustard dressing. Another dish we really enjoyed was their Roasted Chicken and of course, their medium-rare tender fillet which is one of the most popular items of the menu. The portions are generous which makes it perfect for sharing.
Wonderland
An instagram-worthy dining experience, Wonderland is all about pushing the culinary envelope visually. It is a great introduction to a full-sensory dining experience. It is all about dining with theatrics, almost feels like you’re at a play that actually serves food! Definitely one to have your phone out and a great way to keep the children entertained.
Dining Options That Are Included!
We were pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of food at venues such as Windjammer, The Cafe at Two70, Dog House, Sorrentino’s Pizza and more. We honestly did not have the time to dine at every single restaurant on the ship, but were very satisfied with all our complimentary breakfast, lunch and dinner options. There were gluten free options, Jain Vegetarianism counters, Asian cuisine, Western cuisine and you can even customise your salads or noodles just the way you like!
