Falafels. Crispy fritters made of chickpeas or fava beans are perfect for rainy day snacking. While Arab street has its fair share of Middle Eastern food, finding a good Falafel in Singapore has become an increasingly difficult task. We went back to some of our favourite Middle Eastern restaurants in Singapore for the love of a delicious Falafel and shortlisted the best of the lot. Read on to enter a world of crispy fritter heaven!
Pita Tree
Pita Tree is a Mediterranean restaurant in Singapore known especially for its charcoal-grilled kebabs. Pita Tree’s popular Mediterranean food includes it’s Grilled Chicken Kebab, Grilled Lamb Kebab, Grilled Chicken Salad, Mediterranean Hummus Salad, and Falafel, of course!
The Falafel Salad is a healthy and filling vegetarian favourite that comes with a variety of dressings. Also on the menu is an Authentic Falafel Wrap – another vegetarian favourite with chickpeas patties.
Pita Tree’s Executive Chef, Hany Moustafa Basyouni Gabr, curated the menu at Pita Tree with the focus on offering authentic Mediterranean food made fresh daily. As a bodybuilder and health enthusiast, nutrition is of utmost importance to him. He only uses fresh herbs, spices and quality lean meat which has guests coming back for more.
Shabestan
Shabestan, an award-winning Middle Eastern restaurant in Singapore, brings the true taste of Persian cuisine to Singapore. Located in the heart of Robertson Quay, Shabestan strives to bring the best of Middle Eastern flavours by using authentic Persian spices, herbs and cooking techniques.
Lauded for its authenticity and reputed as one of the best Middle Eastern restaurants in Singapore, customers are always coming back for Shabestan’s signature charcoal-grilled kebabs and mezze. Shabestan caters to non-vegetarians, vegetarians, vegans, and diners looking for gluten-free options.
Their description of the Falafel reads “A vegetarian speciality found across borders from the Nile to the mountain of Alborz. Fried dumplings of chickpeas served drizzled with homemade sauce.”
Kazbar
Known for their Shisha (before the no tobacco ruling came into place) and Belly dancing, Kazbar is a Middle Eastern-themed bar located on Church street. A substantially large bar menu and the usual favourites such as hummus, pita and lamb chops make Kazbar a popular place to hang out.
The falafels here are made with a mix of lentils and chickpea and lots of garlic. Served with Tahini, which is a sauce made of sesame seeds, much like a watered-down version of hummus, the falafel at Kazbar is crispy and done just right. The falafel also features on their Big Hot Mezzeh Platter which is great for sharing with friends and family.
Fill a Pita
Another vegetarian restaurant makes it to our list. Again this is not a reflection of the food served at Fill a Pita which is ranked as the number one Falafel restaurant in Singapore on Tripadvisor. Owned by an Egyptian, the food on offer is quintessentially Middle Eastern and healthy – vegans take note, this is one for your lists too.
Fill your pitas with the tasty falafels on offer or eat them as a snack dipped in creamy hummus. Whichever way you choose to falafel, it’s going to be good! The Falafel Pita served with tomato, lettuce and tahini sauce remains the best seller.
Fat Prince
This modern Middle Eastern restaurant in Singapore defies tradition and explores the facets of creativity to offer an elevated, energetic and engaging dining experience. Let your hair down and soak in the sights and sounds of the restaurant's stylish surrounds and funky beats; all while enjoying their unconventional kebabs and "koktails", inspired by the streets and stories of today's nomad.
Speaking of unconventional, their Spring Pea Falafel is drizzled with truffle and served with almond tahini and mushrooms. Indulgent and delicious!
